About Mosaic

We are a group of genetic counselors interested in advancing discussions of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) within the genetic counseling field. We aim to uplift and empower minoritized voices through this public forum.

 Mission

Guided by a historical and analytical approach, our mission is to challenge the established norms, policies, practices, and structures prevalent in the realm of genetic health. We undertake this endeavor with a focus on three objectives:

  1. Illuminating Injustice and Equitable Health: Our commitment extends towards illuminating instances of injustice and inequity within the realm of genomic health. Through rigorous examination and candid discourse, we strive to shed light on the disparities that often remain hidden, advocating for an inclusive and equitable genetic health landscape.

  2. Disrupting and Redefining: Our mission encompasses the disruption of the status quo within genomic research, data interpretation, training, education, healthcare accessibility, and delivery. By questioning and pushing traditional boundaries, we aim to usher in a new era of innovation and inclusivity within the genetic counseling field.

  3. Promoting Humanistic Transformation: Central to our ethos is the promotion of humanistic and transformative approaches to genetic counseling practice. We believe in fostering relationships that are rooted in empathy, and in nurturing a supportive environment that empowers individuals through knowledge and understanding.

Our journey is defined by the pursuit of justice, equity, and compassion. By addressing systemic disparities, leading change, and embracing the power of human connection, we aim to redefine the landscape of genomic health and genetic counseling for the betterment of all.

Anti-oppression work is an ongoing process that requires continuous reflection, learning, and action in community.
